As much as we would love a straight-lined, cookie cutter life, it's impossible. Period, point blank.
This life varies and shifts with all types of winds. We can bask in the soothing brisk wind of happiness one minute; next thing you know, the winds shift, moving suddenly before turning into a severe storm of sadness, hailing random quips of ridiculousness that either bring laughter, shock, grief, and much more (i.e., 2020 pandemic). But on the flip side, that's the beauty of life. No day is the same; if it was, it would eventually become robotic and boring (speaking for myself).
Life starts life-ing to the point that sudden change happens. This abrupt yet inconvenient change may result in the need to pivot.
Pivot? Why? Well, let's explore its meaning. There are several definitions for "pivot" in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary; however, this particular definition aligns with this blog post: an adjustment or modification made (as to a product, service, or strategy) in order to adapt or improve. To adapt or improve. Nothing wrong with a little improvement, especially when there are blessings attached to it. In basketball, a team player pivots (changes directions) on one foot to protect the ball (that right there is a whole sermon). Quintessentially, one changes directions and yet remains grounded. In business context, to pivot means making a change in the way one does something. When we're grounded in God and in His Word, we can safely shift with the move of His Spirit, allowing Him to lead us into our greater next! Sometimes scary, but indeed necessary...

Pivotal moments are a part of life. These moments have varying dimensions of difficulty. With Holy Spirit as our teacher, director and corrector, we can actually soar through unfavorable times if we allow and embrace the pivot. Once again, 2020 is our example. Our entire world was completely shut down. We couldn't travel; we had to "stay home and stay safe." There were shortages on groceries and household essentials. People couldn't go to work; in fact, some businesses folded. However, some businesses thrived in the pandemic.
2020 marked our first wedding anniversary. My husband planned a surprise anniversary trip to Chicago; however, the pandemic prevented all kinds of travel. So, we had to grab takeout from The Cheesecake Factory because patrons couldn't dine in. We had to stay approximately six feet apart from one another. Although we were denied travel and hotel stay, it was only a delay. This past weekend (April 5, 2025) was our sixth wedding anniversary, we were blessed to finally take that trip to Chicago as a family with our one-year-old son. It was just a delay, not a denial. Remember: time and season for everything!
I've recently pivoted in my business. The season of SLT Inspirations ran its course and reached the end of its season. It was time for a pivot into the new. Although editing books is still a very significant part of my business, Holy Spirit has inspired me to do some other things that are in the works, and all under a new name: the namesake of this blog. This was and is my baby, and the shift was bittersweet. After all, the idea for SLT Inspirations was conceived in 2009 during a layoff (pivot!). Seven years later (almost exact) in 2016, SLT Inspirations LLC was born. In 2024, eight years later, it was dissolved, and Quill of Ruach Publications LLC was birthed in January 2025. I'm looking forward to all God is going to do in this season.
Challenges only come to test, promote growth, build character and resilience. Consider this: what you or I may be doing now is only for a season, and not necessarily our lifelong path. We have to check our emotions and allow ourselves to change (pivot) our perspective on life and the situation(s) at hand. This approach comes with maturity and growth. Are you willing to grow and mature?
Pivot your perspective. Get comfortable with adjusting the sails with the winds of life. As long as you allow Ruach to pivot you in divine direction, you will arrive with better understanding and greater appreciation.
For His Glory,
Shairon
