Pesky Fruit Flies!

The human body is a unique machine, divinely created by the hand of God. He fashioned every organ, tissue, sinew, ligament, bone, and vein to work in concert for optimal functionality. Humans are sentient beings who are impacted by senses and in some cases, governed by them. To operate at an effective pace, we must nourish the body by fueling it with life-giving, healthy foods. Albeit self-healing, proper maintenance work is required for the body to function optimally at a comfortable continuity. This is all done and accomplished through prayer, faith, proper diet and exercise.

Praise God, my husband and I are on a path to better health and wellness. Both of us are from families who endured (and even transitioned) from various types of debilitating conditions. Our eyes opened to the realization that we are chief stewards of our own bodies. Polluting our bodies with food and food-like products that are heavily processed alter the harmony of our bodily systems. In some cases, moderation isn't even "key"; some things must be cut out altogether.

One thing we stepped away from is sweets: processed sugars such as candy, cake, brownies, cookies, and all of its cousins. To curb our "sweet tooth," we seek refuge in fruit; I call it "nature's candy." Lately, we've been keeping a variety of fruit in our home.  There's even a spiritual significance to the idea of fruit being the home (being fruitful and multiplying; signifying blessings, abundance, growth and prosperity; fruit of the Spirit, fruit of your labor).  As our house became more "fruitful," I noticed little fruit flies here and there, popping up seemingly out of nowhere. I grew up calling them fruit flies and gnats interchangeably; however, I learned that fruit flies and gnats are actually two different species. Fruit flies are attracted to ripe fruit and even rotting fruit. They are after the finished product. Miniscule in size, fruit flies' capacity to irritate are quite massive. If left unattended, these bugs will lay eggs on your ripe fruit and reproduce at a high rate, ultimately causing infestation. Now, let us look at this spiritually.

Song of Solomon 2:15 says, ...the little foxes, that spoils the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.  Some things can be easily overlooked due to its "size." There is a deception behind thinking that because something is "small," that it is ineffective or that it has no power or ability to wreak havoc or damage. Be cognizant of the fact that the tiniest of matters are irritating and may seem harmless; but when left alone, they can run rampant and cause great destruction.  The Bible refers to the tongue being a small member and yet it can cause a great fire (James 3:5). Even a termite can cause structural damage to an entire house if it's not annihilated in time.

When you're producing fruit (the results of staying committed to the assignment God has placed on your life), the fruit flies will appear. It's almost inevitable! Think it not strange (1 Peter 4:12-13). The spiritual fruit flies are on an assignment of their own: to attack and conquer your fruit: the fruit of your labor and the fruit of the Spirit. These malevolent beings want to evoke the fruit of the flesh and cause it to dominate the Spirit. If left unattended (i.e., not targeted through prayer), these diabolical entities can rest upon the very thing you've work hard for, lay its eggs and reproduce deceit, dissension, lies, turmoil, division, depletion and much more. Discernment must kick into high gear and prompt you into prayer and spiritual warfare so that every demonic tactic will be destroyed.

The devil is a deceiver, coming as something "small, light and innocent"; but its wicked agenda is mammoth. The enemy is after your fruit. Inspect and steward your fruit daily. Protect it prayerfully.
Be wise, discerning, and armored up (2 Corinthians 11:13-15; Ephesians 6). Spot and annihilate every fruit fly, natural and spiritual, on sight! In Jesus' name!
